Photo

It’s said that an image can say a thousand words or something to that effect. Pictures do bring words to mind whether just one as an immediate response or many in the form of a critique.

The first photograph of an animal I remember taking was that of a female house sparrow feeding a fledgling on our garden gate. I was 10-years-old at the time and I took the photo from my bedroom window about 15m away. My camera was a handed down compact model from my dad and as you can probably imagine, the subject didn’t appear that large or clear in the eventual print.

Nowadays, I use a DSLR and have a range of lenses from macro to a 400mm zoom. There was a point in time when my camera would go everywhere with me. However, these days it is often deliberately left at home so that I can soak up the moment when amongst nature.

Here are just a few of my favourite images showing a range of species.
